my sweet nephew alex

My nephew Alex stayed over last weekend. We had so much fun at Lego Land in KC and Fritz's Railroad Diner for lunch! Check out the pictures!

Daddy and T. He saw that Daddy got a shake and he got a milk. So he took Daddy's and
said, that's Tristan's, this is Daddy's (as he hands Daddy the milk).

my first 5K

Yowzers! Thanks to Robyn for pushing me to do this. I meant to train up to the day of the race, but with all the traveling for work and everything else going on, I didn't make it a priority. So here comes the day of the race. My first 5K. Boy was I worried that it was going to take me 3 hours to complete....So I stretched, and stretched, and hoped that my old body wouldn't fail me. Good thing Nathan and Tristan were there to cheer me on and take some pictures!

Then the race began. I don't know if it was the fact that there were others running beside me or that we weren't running in circles around a track, but I kept pushing on. I ran the entire first mile without stopping once. Wow, I couldn't believe I was able to do that. I saw all kinds of people around me of all ages continuing to run ~ and I think that motivating me as well. I kept pushing on. By this time I was at 9th street and just knew I didn't have much to go. It was when I saw everyone diverting towards Kanza park that I knew I still had a long way to go ~ but I kept at it. I stopped a few more times and power walked through when I did. I looked at my clock and realized it was 8:24am and texted Nathan to meet me at the end  by 8:30am (because we both really thought it was going to take me a while). As I turned the corner to the finish line, people were cheering me on, my lungs were killing me, and I was panting like a dog, but ran even faster into the finish line. I was so excited that I finished that I was overwhelmed that I almost burst into tears and threw up at the same time. I'm glad I didn't eat beforehand.

Nathan catching me stretching....

Wow. I couldn't believe it. I really finished. This was on my bucket list and now I can cross it off. Thank you so much Robyn for pushing me to do this. Robyn finished 3rd in her age group and I finished 11th with a time of 33:27.5. I've already signed up for my next one ~ the Color Run in Oct. Can't wait. I think it will be so much fun!

my grandpa is the cutest

I always love visiting with my Grandpa ~ especially in person! I had to travel to Omaha for work and was able to visit him at his retirement home this past week.  He is the funniest man to speak with and I don't think he even realizes it.  Here are a couple cute excerpts from my time spent with him.

"If you want, you can have a bib like some of us wear at dinner."

I told my Grandpa about Daniel's upcoming nuptials, and he said, "Is she big like Daniel?" I said, "No, she's short...not as tall as Daniel."

"Sometimes you just need a sip of whiskey."

"If you get me a puzzle, it will just have to be a 50. They don't have room for anything bigger."

"You like my license plate?" (He has a license plate on the front of his walker like a car, lol.)

"You really should cut your son's hair."

"What is it that Nathan actually does?"

Grandpa ~ "You want my ice cream?" Me ~"Are you going to eat it?" Grandpa ~ "Well I'm going to eat it if you aren't."

He really is too cute! I love his personality and how candid he can be! Until next time, Grandpa....

sometimes....

san francisco

Who says when you go to San Francisco for work that you can't have a little fun while you are there?

Shona took me out on the town via cable car, when to Fisherman's wharf, the original Ghirardelli location to purchase the new Cabernet Dark Chocolate squares, observed Alcatraz from land, and enjoyed fresh seafood and good wine for dinner. Knowing we were going back to the hotel, we bagged up our leftovers and gave them to a homeless person on the street. No sense in wasting good food, right?  The pictures aren't the best, but you get the idea ~ it was a lot of fun!!

girl's dinner party

Sometimes it's just fun to hang out with the girls. Your girls. A lot of them. All at once. With lots of wine. Just sayin'.

Good food, great wine, awesome cheesecake, great conversation (and debates, I might add), lots of grace, and lots of delivery room stories to laugh about. Hey, every mother has one, right?  While some of the girls weren't able to make it, 14 of us sat around the table eating wonderful pasta, lots of salad, two kinds of yummy bruschetta, and great dipping oils for the bread.

Next month, where are we going? What are we doing? Any ideas??

**Pictures were not a part of this blog post in order to protect the innocent.

dental fun

Tristan's second dental visit was so much fun for him. He even got to brush a lion's teeth all by himself. Check out the pics!

They had him start with a picture on the butterfly chair...

What's that?  (I love how he's holding the lion they gave him).

These ingenious people have a TV right above the child's head....

Trying to show her he can brush.

Let's brush the lion's teeth...

Dig, dig....

hilton head

Five women, golf, the sun, boating, and alcohol turns into T.R.O.U.B.L.E.  Our first annual girls trip to Hilton Head was a blast! The first night Danica met me in Baltimore since there were no direct flights from Corpus and we headed to the new casino with Maria to have some fun!

Amy and Laura had a grand idea to start off the trip with some pics in the cockpit...

they got a head start

the captain just loved us

We started out the first night exploring the marina right next to our resort, staying up a little too late.....Jamie headed to bed at like 7pm ~ happy to be able to sleep! While Danica, Laura, Amy, and I sat around and chatted about everything under the sun. The first night ended with a crazy escapade through the marina, hopping from yachts to motor boats, enjoying the new found freedom of a girl's weekend away. Little did we know that there was a posted sign for no trespassing...

such a goof

now we see the sign....

my henna tattoo....

After our little escapade, we hopped the fence to go swimming after hours, only to find out that we could have just used our code because there really wasn't any "after hours". Laura threw down some Coors Light cans from our room and Amy and I indulged in a late night drink and swim.

gators were everywhere...

fake smilin'

loving the water

The next day was quite relaxing as we walked the area, shopped, and sat on rockers for hours while observing the other tourists and indulging in a few bloody mary's. We headed back to the resort to enjoy some grilling by the pool and relaxing in the sun. The night ended with some more much needed girl talk ~ only to stay up a little too late once again. Danica, Laura, and I posed near the chess set by the pool and took a few pictures pretending to be the cheerleaders we were in high school. I don't know why I cannot find those pictures.....hmmmm.

chillin'

.....and drinkin'

Our last full day here..where did the time go? We didn't care, we just wanted to relax and sat around watching movies until about 4pm until we realized we should do a little more shopping, a little more drinking, and a little more relaxing poolside. Once again, staying up late, loving every minute of our girl time and bonding like never before. I. can. not. wait. until. next. year. Can you? Some takeaways from the trip....

And the boys had fun playing at home by visiting the museum.
